Communities & Physicians Together (CPT) is a partnership between the UC Davis Health System and ten grassroots, community-based organizations in Sacramento and Yuba Counties.

CPT's partners believe that communities are powerful forces when it comes to the health of children, families and other community members.

The mission of CPT is to train "residents" - physicians in training - how to engage communities in reciprocal partnerships that will improve the health, safety and overall well-being of their patients.

CPT works to train future physicians to be better doctors by understanding the social determinants of health and equipping them with the skills to engage in their patients' communities.  Some of these educational activities include:

* Resident/community projects

*
Community physician participation and training

*
Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) lectures

*
CPT Academy: Capacity-building for community members

*
Annual Resident Advocacy Symposium

*
School Health (nutrition education for 350 4th graders)

*
CPTNews Quarterly Newsletter

While the founding cornerstone of CPT is its medical education component, our partnership is growing!  In addition to training activities, CPT is also working hard to engage communities in the research and service arms of UC Davis, including these exciting endeavors:

* AmeriCorps*VISTA: an initiative that places motivated, long-term volunteers in CPT partner communities.

*
National Children's Study: CPT is the UC Davis team lead for all community engagement activities in this exciting NIH-sponsored study.

* School Health: a nutrition education program for 800+ fourth-and-fifth-graders in six Sacramento schools.

* Trauma Prevention: CPT has linked its community partners with UC Davis' Trauma Prevention Program in order to help the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration get the message out about child passenger safety.
